Art from Intuition by Dean Nimmer

There’s a new local blog, Art from Intuition, from artist Dean Nimmer showcasing his upcoming book, Art from Intuition: Overcoming Your Fears and Obstacles to Making Art.

Dean Nimmer is a prolific, interesting, and much-acclaimed artist. He taught at MassArt in Boston for over 20 years, and recently moved to Holyoke (he has a studio at Open Square). In addition to the gorgeous textured abstract paintings and prints which make up the main body of his professional work, he has a large body of work on paper, and numerous side-projects. A recent fun side-project, Unique Fredrique, is billed as “brilliant and terrifying art.”

He is an artist who seems always to be in the process of creating. Creating art is a natural as breathing to Nimmer, who never seems to suffer from the “artist-block” that so many artists bemoan. His approach is no-fear, just dive in and create—create anything. Shut off your conscious mind full of self-doubt and negative chatter and let your intuition guide you. His book leads the reader through more than 60 exercises designed to break through obstacles and get into the habit of creating art without hesitation.

The blog promises to post sample exercises from the book, and information about “Art from Intuition” workshops Nimmer will be teaching during the year.

The book is published by Watson-Guptill, and is scheduled to be on bookshelves in April, though you can pre-order it at Amazon.

Thanks so much for the kind words and the plug for my book. I’d like to post a couple of announcements – 1. I’m moving my studio from Open Square, and I’m having an open studio sale of my work during the week of January 21 to 26. The open studio will be by appointment thru my email at deandart@aol.com. There will be a closing reception and sale on Saturday, January 26th from 2pm to 6pm at Open Square (4 Open Square Way, Holyoke, MA 01040) 2. I’m teaching a 1-day “Drawing, Painting and Monotype” workshop at the Zea Mays printmaking studio on Saturday, February 9. See the Zea Mays website, (www.zeamaysprintmaking.com/workshops.html#drawing), for registration information. Thanks again for the publicity. Regards, Dean
